Diana Vickers -The Boy Who Murdered Love - Lyrics, Annotation

You're The Boy Who Murdered Love
Cold hands and a heart of stone
You're a midas in reverse
You're the king of pain and hurt

Through the lyrics it can be seen that the "boy" has broken the main characters heart and she pin points him as being someone who is cold hearted and almost emotionless as he "murdered love". Not particularly their love but she mentions love in general which could be said is a extremely bold verse, which is revealed through her use of words.

And the stars turn into fire
And the roses change from red to black
You encourage my desire
Then you put the arrow in my back

Through these lyrics she expresses how she feels he almost led her on and then stabbed her in the back. Her fairytale world has almost fallen to pieces. In the video we want to narrate this by focusing shooting around the main character but also having snap shots of the "boy". Through the video we want her emotions to be expressed as a girl who's torn between the boy she loved and how she know's she has been wronged yet is still reminicing over the past. Furthermore How he broke her heart and moved on so easily yet her life's almost at a stand still.

Shot shot shot shot shot like a bullet
Stop stop stop stop stop oh you love it
No no no no no now you've done it
You're The Boy Who Murdered Love
Love love love love

You're The Boy Who Murdered Love

The chorus it'self could be described as metaphoric one as she compares her pain to the pain of a bullet. The male character through out is made out to be someone who actually enjoyed breaking her heart, as seen here "oh you love it", and this is almost clear in the overall narrative of both the song and the video.

You're the thief of innocence
You're a tainted cherry tree
There's a mark upon your skin
Where your heart once used to be

You're a sinner with no soul
You're the nearly was I never had
You're an angel I was told
Then you put the arrow in my back

It's as though she envy's him for being able to move on so quickly, there's a feel of "maybe he didn't love me" Also through out the video we hope to portray the male character as someone who was made out to be what he's not. This can be narrated through the verse "You're an angel I was told, Then you put the arrow in my back." This will be shown through him and his current girlfriend while the main character narrates over their actions, as they pass her by and she follows them.

Shot shot shot shot shot like a bullet
Stop stop stop stop stop oh you love it
No no no no no now you've done it
You're The Boy Who Murdered Love
Love love love love

The music video:
We choose to do our music video to, Diana Vickers-Boy who murdered Love

Diana Vickers - The Boy Who Murdered Love on MUZU.

Duration:
The duration of the music video is 3 minutes and 16 seconds long

Audience:
Our video is about a previous relationship which ment more to one of the individuals then the other. Both of the main characters are young and the video is aimed at people who can relate. It shall be suited to both males and females between 14-22. It's audience will reflect it's actual fanbase. Though it's not specific to just those, we think that this target audience shall best reflect the video. It also could appeal to people in their 20's or then more specifically anyone who can relate to the narrative.

Resume:
Our video is about a break up where the female is bitter, she talks about the boy m,urdering love asthough the love and emotion is actually a living person. In the original video there are artistic cartoon features which make make it stand out but theres not much of a narrative it could be said. The lyrics are essential as they reflect the pain of the main character. The male figure is presented as someone who was almost ment to be perfect but actually tuned out a let down. The lyrics "You're an angel i was told." reflects this. Basically with in our video we want to present the sense of biterness that can be protrayed through actions aswell as lyrics. With in the video are going to be three main characters. Two of them being the male and his new girlfriend, the narrater of the video, the one singing shall be the broken hearted ex girlfriend that's still bitter about the break up. we have ideas such as the ex stalking the new couple and reminising of when she was with him and when they did that. Also we want to create a shot where she narrates over the current girlfriend and him having a candle lit dinner and then after this it zooms out onto a picture of when her and him had that and she burns it, to erase memories. At the end of the song we are going to have a clip of the couple walking onto the manchester eye, as the doors are about to close the bitter ex pushes the current girlfriend out and jumps in herself to kind of vent her anger out and make him feel guilty as she sings the rest of the song to him and he knows it's directed at him. except for whats on screen we want to create a "if only" feel with bitterness present. We want the audience to precieve the video as a girl who's hurt and is caught up in the past, hurt about the present and unsure about the future.

Suggested elements:
performance- with in our video there shall be 3 main characters:

1) A young girl who lost herself in a relationship and is finding it hard to get over, she shall almost narrate the video by being the main story focus and narrating the new relationship.

2) A young male who recently broke up with a girl who thought they were in a perfect relationship, he has now moved on and is in a new relationship. His new life in a way is the focus of the video.

3)There shall another female character who's the males new girlfriend, she's almost a silent character as she's unaware of his past, so is always curious of who this girl is that's following/stalking them.

Costume:
We want to use relevant costum
es, more day to day kind of clothing. Although at times the costumes for the main girl shall be more model like, unique dresses etc, as she has to make a statement and we have a set image that we want to create for her. the way she dresses has to portray that she feels good about her self and in a way cant understand why he'd leave someone like her.

Location:

  • Central town
  • A restaurant, for the candle lit dinner
  • Following the couple in streets
  • The manchester eye

We mainly want want to film in believable locations that are, realistic and everyday locations.
